OVERVIEW
Rothenburg ob der Tauber is one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval town in Germany. You won´t see modern buildings or imposing billboards. The former imperial town was flourishing in the Middle Ages, but after turbulent wars of XVII century lost its power and stopped growing. Lovely half-timbered houses, narrow cosy streets, impressive rampants, beautiful gardens, large churches are hidden within the protective walls that surround the Old town.
We will visit the Town Hall and the pilgrim Church of St. Jacob to look at its greatest treasure: the Alter of the Holy Blood. The presentation of the Last Supper is regarded as one of the finest examples of the work of genious medieval woodcarver Tilman Riemenschneider. It´s Germany´s greatest piece of woodcarving.
We will definitely visit a unique Christmas museum to immerse in the fairy-tale atmosphere that reigns in Rothenburg ob der Tauber all year long.
We will finish our tour on a tiny square Plönlein which considered one of the most amazing medieval square in Europe.
